Children in Need

Millions of children are threatened by humanitarian crises around the world. Many are at the center of wars, armed conflicts, persecution, natural disasters, and other complex crises. Children pay a high price for humanitarian crises. They have often experienced or witnessed acts of violence and are at risk of neglect, violence, abuse, exploitation, human trafficking, or military recruitment. Children's rights are under threat all over the world.

Many children are forced to flee their homes. According to UNHCR, children account for more than 40 percent of all displaced persons and more than 50 percent of all refugees worldwide. Many boys and girls spend their entire childhood away from home, sometimes separated from their families. DONARE has selected six organizations that provide urgent humanitarian aid to children: PLAN International, Save the Children International, UNICEF, World Vision International, Terre des Hommes and ChildFund International.

Plan International

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organization that advances children’s rights and opportunities as well as equality for girls. Founded in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War, Plan International is one of the oldest and largest children's aid organizations in the world. The organization is active in more than 75 countries. Plan International responds to emergencies and disasters that threaten the lives of children.
